The clearest proof that Chibuwe's technical education works isn't a statistic — it's a working vehicle built by an 18-year-old.

The Mapipi 2025

Mapipi Tinotenda, then a learner at Chibuwe, spent several months designing and building a fully operational four-wheeled “light motor buggy” entirely from scratch — translating his ZIMSEC Ordinary Level physics and mechanics knowledge directly into applied engineering.

Using a circular-economy approach, the buggy was built from a salvaged motorbike engine, repurposed chassis components, and reclaimed suspension parts sourced from the surrounding community. It runs on standard petrol, carries a custom-fabricated 15-litre fuel tank, and has the payload capacity for three people — a driver up front and two passengers in the rear cargo bed.

This isn't a static display piece. The buggy has undergone basic road testing on the school grounds, and Mapipi aims to officially register it for public roads under the name “Mapipi 2025.” It's slated to be used directly by the Headmaster for internal campus transport.

In Form 3, Mapipi had already built a remote-controlled motorised boat — capable of navigating local water bodies, capturing photographs remotely, and returning to shore automatically at the press of a button.

The school's Social Welfare Department stepped in to cover Mapipi's tuition, boarding, and uniforms, ensuring his mechanical talent wasn't limited by financial hardship — and the school is now seeking corporate sponsorship to fund his tertiary studies.

The Innovation Facility

Today

Innovation projects are currently built within the school's welding department.

What's Planned

Headmaster Needmore Maposa has announced plans for a stand-alone Innovation facility — with dedicated space for visual arts, sculpture fabrication, and large-scale assembly of motorised inventions, effectively creating a small self-contained industrial park on campus.
